WHAT IS A MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTIONIST?

In the broadest sense, medical transcription is the act of translating, from oral to printed form, the record of a patient’s medical history and treatment. Physicians rely on the judgment and reasoning of experienced medical transcriptionists to safeguard the accuracy and integrity of medical dictation. A medical transcriptionist is looked upon as a language specialist. The physical demands of being a medical transcriptionist are that of primarily sedentary work, with continuous use of earphones, keyboard, foot control and video display terminal.

PROOFREADING IS A SKILL...LEARN IT WELL.

Here at Transcription Plus, LLC we require that each dictation is re-listened to while proofreading - listening to each and every word. Proofreading WORD FOR WORD is very important. Many times when you know what a sentence SHOULD say, that is what you see, instead of what the individual words actually say. Time MUST be set aside to accomplish work correctly. Work subcontracted through Transcription Plus, LLC is done so with the understanding that the proper amount of time will be dedicated to complete the work with 100 percent accuracy. THIS IS NOT AN OPTION -- IT IS A REQUIREMENT.

ACCURATE PROOFREADING IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.   A transcriptionist working with Transcription Plus, LLC is expected to be a responsible person with honed, quality skills...able to pick up 99.9 percent of the errors that are made, before work is submitted. This entails much more than technical medical skills -- grammar, punctuation and common sense skills are also essential. Safeguards are in place at Transcription Plus, LLC whereby it is virtually IMPOSSIBLE for common errors to slip by, provided the safeguards are being followed closely. Posing a question through the appropriate avenues, if not 100% positive of the simplest to the most complex issues, is always correct. Guessing is always wrong. Know when to doubt...doubt often...and...when in doubt, ask - never assume.

LISTEN CAREFULLY...

To what is being said and learn to pay constant attention to content. Sound judgment, deductive reasoning, common sense and the ability to detect medical inconsistencies in dictation is critical for the professional medical language specialist.

CONFIDENTIALITY:

All client information and/or procedures which are specific to your office are highly confidential. It is extremely important that this confidence not be breached. You must never divulge any information pertinent to a client and/or their patients to anyone.

COMPENSATION:

A subcontractor is required to own the equipment and supplies required to perform the job. A subcontractor is responsible for filing and paying of all Federal, State, FICA and/or any other applicable taxes.

DON'T HAVE HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE?   Unlike many transcription companies, Transcription Plus, LLC may be willing, in select cases, to work with you to assist in developing your skill level...provided you possess textbook knowledge of medical terminology, as well as the outlined work-ethic requirements.
